Teresa Nogueira obtained the Licenciatura (BSc of 5 years) in Biology in 1993 from the Universidade de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências and the PhD in Physiology and Genetics of Microorganisms in 2001 from the Université de Paris-Sud, France. She has postgraduate training in genomics and bioinformatics at the Sorbonne Université, France and the University of Minho, Portugal. She is a researcher at INIAV - National Institute for Agrarian and Veterinary Research and cE3c - Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Change of the University of Lisbon & CHANGE - Institute for Global Change and Sustainability. She leads the Microbial Genomics and Bioinformatics group. She works in the fields of microbiology, evolutionary biology, bacterial genomics, metagenomics, bioinformatics and agricultural sciences. Her scientific goal is to understand the evolutionary dynamics of bacterial genomes and metagenomes from human, animal and environmental microbiomes. She aims to address antibiotic resistance, virulence and genomic mobility profiles of microbial communities in aquatic and food-producing environments through large-scale genomic and metagenomic analyses as part of the One Health approach. She is also involved in outreach and science communication activities to promote scientific literacy in biological evolution. In this context, she is a board member of the scientific association EvoKE (Evolutionary Knowledge for Everybody), which is deeply involved in promoting public understanding and acceptance of evolution.
