Ivan Marcelino Langa holds a bachelor’s degree (2018) in Forensic Laboratory Sciences and a Master's degree (2021) in Forensic Laboratory Sciences and Techniques from the University Institute of Health Sciences (IUCS, CESPU). From 2012 to 2015, he worked at the Maputo Central Hospital (Mozambique) as a clinical analysis technician, gaining expertise in collecting, handling, and analysing hematologic, biochemical, and microbiological samples. In 2018, he joined the R&I Unit IINFACTS (Institute of Research and Advanced Training in Health Sciences and Technologies) as a full-time collaborator, where he worked on his undergraduate project titled "Otimização das condições de derivatização para formação de diastereoisómeros de drogas quirais psicoativas", as part of his bachelor's degree studies. He continued his scientific path in Forensic Toxicology during his master's degree, focusing on wastewater-based epidemiology studies. His dissertation, "Analysis of psychoactive substances in surface waters," was successfully defended with the highest classification of 20 values (out of 20), reflecting his dedication. This achievement led to the publication of two articles in international peer-reviewed journals (as the first author), namely "Wastewater analysis of psychoactive drugs: Non-enantioselective vs enantioselective methods for estimation of consumption" in Forensic Science International (a Q1 journal) and "Gas Chromatography Multiresidue Method for Enantiomeric Fraction Determination of Psychoactive Substances in Effluents and River Surface Waters" in Chemosensors (a Q2 journal), as well as several poster/oral presentations at scientific meetings. His proficiency and independence in analytical protocols and techniques such as Solid Phase Extraction (SPE), Gas Chromatography (GC), and Liquid Chromatography (LC) for quantifying psychoactive drugs in wastewaters, as well as other matrices, along with his extensive knowledge in ecotoxicity (including experience in toxicity tests on aquatic organisms), qualified him as a research fellow in the FCT project "Ecotoxicity and enantioselective bioaccumulation of psychoactive substances" (ENANTIOTOX, ref. PTDC-CTA-AMB-6686-2020). Since 2021, he has been a member of 1H-TOXRUN (One Health Toxicology Research Unit, IUCS-CESPU), contributing to various multidisciplinary projects. Recently, he was invited to lecture as Invited Assistant Professor, teaching practical classes on chromatographic techniques for the Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, as well as for bachelor’s programs in Biomedical Sciences, Forensic Science, and Nutrition Sciences. He also teaches both theoretical and practical courses in various subjects within the bachelor's programs in Forensic Science at IUCS-CESPU. In 2022 he was awarded an FCT grant to carry out his ongoing doctoral studies at the Laboratories of 1H-TOXRUN, CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre for Marine and Environmental Research), and UCIBIO- Unit of Applied Biological Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto.
