Elsa Loureiro graduated in Biochemistry from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC), in 2021, with a final grade of 16. During this period, she was attributed the 3% Best Students Award in the academic year 2018-2019. During her BSc final project, where she got a classification of 18, she presented a poster, at the 7th International Iberian Biophysics Congress, regarding her research work entitled “Preparation of Large Unillamellar Vesicles with encapsulated protein – comparison of different methodologies”. During this project, she acquired relevant knowledge on liposome preparation, drug encapsulation and characterization techniques such as zeta potential and dynamic light scattering. In 2021, she joined the Master´s Degree in Nanomaterials Science and Technology from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), which she concluded with an average grade of 17. Her master thesis, “Stimuli-responsive hybrid polymer/surfactant hydrogel for topical applications”, supervised by Prof. Eduardo Marques (CIQUP-UPorto) and Prof. Andreia Gomes (CBMA-UMinho) was graded with 19. With this project, she attained expertise in structural and rheological characterization of nanomaterials, loading and release studies and in-vitro cytotoxicity assays. She had the opportunity to share her results at the 16th and 17th UPORTO Young Researchers Meetings (IJUP 2023 and IJUP 2024), where she was awarded the prize for best oral communication in chemistry (IJUP 2024). The developed work also contributed to three posters: presented at the 16th Mediterranean Conference on Calorimetry and Thermal Analysis (MEDICTA 2023), at the 37th European Colloid and Interface Society Conference (ECIS 2023) and at the 10th Iberian Meeting on Colloids and Interfaces (RICI X). From her thesis results, two manuscripts are also currently being written. She is a member of the Portuguese Biochemical Society, since 2021. Currently, she is a collaborator at the Chemistry Research Center (CIQUP) in Prof. E. Marques research team.
