Beatriz Silva holds a Master's degree in Intercultural Studies – Portuguese-Chinese and a Bachelor's degree in Oriental Languages and Cultures, both from the University of Minho, under the coordination of Professor Sun Lam. During her undergraduate studies, she won second and first prizes in the Chinese Bridge competition, organised by the Confucius Institute Headquarters – Hanban, in Braga (2014) and Lisbon (2015), respectively. With the latter, she represented Portugal in the international edition of the competition in Changsha (China, 2015). Between 2019 and 2025, she pursued a PhD in Artistic Studies—Art and Mediations at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at NOVA University Lisbon, researching the role of revolutionary music and opera in Maoist China. Her thesis, Singing the Revolution: The Role of Songs and Opera in the Dissemination of Communism in Mao Zedong's China, received the highest classification awarded by the institution by unanimous decision and was further recommended for publication. Since 2018, she has worked professionally in Chinese-Portuguese translation. In parallel, she collaborates with the SPEAK association, teaching beginner-level Mandarin and Chinese culture. In her youth, she studied singing with professors Inês Villadelprat, Joana Pereira, and Sílvia Pinto, later winning first prizes in the following competitions: the Chinese Song Competition for International Students, organised by Nankai University in Tianjin (2016); the Chinese Song Competition for Non-Native Singers, organised by the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre in Lisbon (2018); and the Artistic Project – Song Festival, organised by the Barcelos City Council in the same city (2019).
