Ana Rita Araújo academic journey started in 2006 at the Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP), with graduation and a Master degree in Chemical Engineering, which she finished by 2011 with a final grade of 15/20. During her masters, she participated in the Erasmus Program, where she had the opportunity to study at the Kaho Sint-Lieven University, Gent. She arrived at the 3Bs Research Group in 2011, to work as a researcher in a project based on an industrial-academic partnership to valorise cork-based by-products (“WaterCork” – ADI – ERDF funding), followed by a series of projects (co)funded by the EC (e.g. FP7, H2020). Additionally, she participated in the functionalization of 2D surfaces using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) for biosensing applications, under the scope of the project Find & Bind financed under the 7th Framework Program of the EC. In 2015 she started her PhD studies (at UM) and in 2017 she was awarded with a PhD scholarship in the Doctoral Programme in Advanced Therapies for Health (PATH) and an IACOBUS Predoctoral research grant at the CIQUS Lab (Santiago de Compostela), Spain. She dedicated her PhD work to the development of natural-based compounds and their exploitation as anti-bacterial, anti-UV, as well as anti-amyloidogenic agents able to reduce the toxicity of amyloid-beta (Alzheimer disease hallmark). She is (co-)authored 9 peer-reviewed papers in high impact scientific journals (all in Q1; average IF of apx. 5), 1 book chapter, 2 published conference abstract, 9 oral communications and 9 poster presentations, and also a reviewer of high impact journals. She was awarded with the Young Biophysicist 2021 prize from the Portuguese Society of Biophysics (SPBf). From 2016 to 2018 she was a board member of the Portuguese Young Chemists group (GQJ) from the Portuguese Chemical Society (SPQ), as well as a Portuguese Delegate member in the 13th Delegates Assembly of the European Young Chemists Network (EYCN) from the Young Chemists of the European Chemical Society (EuChemS). She also contributes to the organization of the 1st European Young Chemists Meeting (EYCheM), held together with the 5th Portuguese Young Chemists Meeting (2016) that has held in Guimarães, Portugal. More recently, she was a founding member of the PhDynamics Group from 3B’s Research Group (2018). She was also involved in the execution of the project “Chem2Nature” and “NORTHERN DISCOVERIES CTR” financed by the EC and Norte2020 regional programme, respectively. Finally, for several years that she is responsible for the Chemistry Laboratory at the 3B’s lab (UM), as well as for the maintenance and training actions of several types of equipment. At the moment, she is a Post-doc researcher at the 3B’s Research Group (UM).
