Dr. Ali Khalfallah is a Senior Researcher in the fields of Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Manufacturing at CEMMPRE, University of Coimbra. He obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Université de Tunis El Manar in 2004, with degree recognition from the University of Coimbra in 2019. Formerly the head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sousse in Tunisia, Dr. Khalfallah has been actively involved in numerous international research projects, such as RDForming, SPSuF, MT4MOBI, and NSOMESMEF, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and the Ministry of Higher Education. His supervision of many Ph.D. candidates and master's students highlights his strong commitment to mentoring and advancing research in his field. Dr. Khalfallah’s expertise spans modeling and simulation of material behavior and structures, materials characterization, and process optimization, with a particular focus on sustainable materials development and green manufacturing technologies. He has also made significant contributions in thin films and nanomaterials research using nano-instrumented techniques coupled with simulation and machine learning approaches. Recently, he has expanded his work into the field of Tribology to better understand the tribological behaviour of materials through the modelling and simulation approaches. In addition to his research, Dr. Khalfallah serves as an Editorial Board Member for Modeling and Simulation in Engineering, Wiley Journal (ISSN: 1687-5605) and is a recognized reviewer for over 30 prestigious scientific journals. In 2023, he was honored with the "IOP Trusted Reviewer" status for his contributions to academic peer review. His editorial work includes the coordination of special issues for Machines, Crystals, Coatings (MDPI) and Welding International journals on emerging topics in cutting-edge research. Dr. Khalfallah has a respectable publication record, with 54 scientific publications, and Editorial papers for two books, including 35 articles in peer-reviewed journals, as well as contributions to books and patents for a total citation of 472 and h-index 12. He has been actively involved in the organization of several international conferences, serving on scientific committees for events such as ICR MDA&M, MSAM, and CMS. Furthermore, he has delivered around 20 keynote speeches at International Conferences, including IDDRG and ESAFORM, among others.
