Alain Morais, BSc in Medical laboratory technology in 2000 and MSc in Biomedical Sciences in 2004, completed his PhD degree in Biomedical and Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2009. All educational formation obtained from the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL), Belgium. The academic formation also includes a MAS in Biomedical Sciences and the FELASA/ICLAS (category C). During his academic course, A. Morais published 4 original papers and 1 review (cumulative impact factor of 41 and over 525 citations). He also participated in several national and international meetings with oral and posters presentations. All participations in international congress were granted by full EASL Young Investigators Bursaries. During his PhD, A. Morais has also joined the Interuniversity Gastroenterology Exchange program sponsored by SOLVAY PHARMA. After his PhD A. Morais moved to Portugal and, between January 2010 and December 2011, worked as post-doc at University of Minho (CBMA) granted by FCT (SFRH/BPD/62856/2009). The results obtained showed, for the first time, the existence of an EGFR protein paralog in yeast cell surface. During few months, he worked in France in the pharmaceutical company Macors as one of the responsible for the quality control of the main company¿s product: Movicol. This experience allowed him to enlarge his skills. On March 2013, A. Morais was hired as post-doc by the 3B's Research Group. Since then, A. Morais has worked closely with Stemmatters Company in the development of new ATMP for cartilage tissue engineering (TE) resulting in the submission of two patents and several oral and poster communications in national and international congress. With more than 19 scientific contributions in scientific journals with referee (most of them in high impact factor journals), participation in 2 patents, 6 book chapters in books with international circulation, A. Morais has an h-index of 14, receiving over 850 citations; and a RG of 28.74. Recently he was strongly involved in the FEDER-funded 3BioMeD project (FCT/4773/4/5/2017/S - €99.810,00 M) as well as on B-Liver project (2017 Call for SR&TD Project Grant - €238.601,47). At 3B's, the applicant has been involved on the field of biomaterials for biomedical applications and new in vivo models, namely for TE and orthopedics, with applications mainly directed to cartilage lesions. More recently, A. Morais has been involved on TE applications for meniscus, pancreas, liver and nerve conduct. As post-doc, he co-supervises unofficially the work of several PhD students.
