In Dec. 2011, Ana Fernandes-Platzgummer (AFP) concluded the doctoral program in Bioengineering Systems, jointly offered by Faculty of Sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, IST ¿ University de Lisboa, School of Engineering, Universidade do Minho and with the support of the MIT-Portugal Program. Since PhD, AFP pursued her investigation at iBB-IST (2012-2016 as post-doctoral fellow; 2016-present as research assistant) focused on developing efficient, scalable and cost-effective production processes for the large-scale ex vivo expansion of human adult cells and the production of their extracellular vesicles in controlled bioreactors. AFP have 34 publications (20 SCI papers, 7 book chapters and 7 proceedings) with ca. 74 co-authors. In Sep. 2019, AFP was hired as an Invited Assistant Professor at IST, and since then she dedicates 15% of her time in teaching activities. She have completed the supervision of 9 MSc students and 6 Laboratory Rotations/Seed Projects of PhD students. Since the 2021, she is Principal Investigator of the ¿Smart bioprocess design for cellular and molecular therapies LAB¿ at SCERG-iBB and currently, she supervises 1 junior PhD researcher, 3 PhD students and 2 master students.
