Micaela Aguiar is a researcher at CEHUM (Centre of Humanistic Studies of University of Minho). She completed her Ph.D in linguistics, with funding from the FCT through a doctoral scholarship, in the field of Discourse Analysis, with a thesis titled "Imagens presidenciais nos discursos de tomada de posse nos cem anos da República Portuguesa" (Presidential Images in Inaugural Addresses during the hundred years of the Portuguese Republic). Within her thesis, she compiled 27 inaugural addresses delivered by Presidents of the Republic since 1910, thus establishing the first corpus of presidential inaugural address from the Portuguese Republic. Prior to this, the speeches had never been compiled, they were dispersed among antique books and newspaper articles, parliamentary minutes and various other records. Recently she worked as contracted researcher on the project PortLinguE, Multilingual Portal for Specialized Languages: mining open data for cross-language information retrieval, at University of Minho. Micaela Aguiar has published several papers in specialized journals and has presented her work in national and international conferences. Micaela Aguiar's research interest lies in digital humanities, corpus linguistics and NLP, which she hopes to explore further in her future work.
