Dr. Bai-Qiao CHEN is currently Assistant Professor in Universidade de Lisboa - Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). He completed his Doctorate degree with reference 2418/ISTCD/16 in 2016/07 by Universidade de Lisboa - Instituto Superior Técnico and his Master's degree with reference 6799/ISTCM/12 in 2011 by the same university. He has published 39 articles in journals, edited a book, and has about 40 book chapters and conference papers. Has received 2 awards and/or honours. He is on the Editorial Board of several journals, including Brodogradnja (ISSN 0007-215X), Journal of Marine Science and Application (ISSN 1671-9433), Journal of Marine Science and Engineering (ISSN 2077-1312), etc., and serves as Guest Editor for four international journals. He has reviewed over 200 papers for journals such as Marine Structures, Ocean Engineering, and Thin-Walled Structures. He has an h-index of 21 (source: Scopus) and approximately 1,300 citations (as of 2025). He has also been a member of the International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress (ISSC) since 2018. He has given courses (master level) on Ocean Platforms, Analysis of Ship Structure, Shipyard Management, and Subsea Production Systems in IST since 2017. He also works as a supervisor of master's dissertations and PhD dissertations in offshore engineering and related areas.
