Joana L. Gonçalves is a Clinical Psychologist and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Lusíada University. She is an integrated member at the Psychology for Development Research Center (CIPD). She has an academic and professional background in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Developmental Psychology and Neuroscience, having accumulated clinical experience working with infants, children, and families. As a researcher, she primarily works in the Developmental Affective Neuroscience scientific domain. Her research focuses on the psychology and neuroscience of mother-infant relationship, attachment, and emotional processing. She is particularly interested in understanding how infants and mothers process the emotional information conveyed through facial expressions. She addresses these topics by combining experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience approaches, namely, behavioral, physiological, developmental, eye-tracking, and neural/fMRI measures. She has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles in journals including Infancy, Early Human Development, Children, BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth, European Early Childhood Education Research Journal, Frontiers in Psychology, Children, Plos One, Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, Frontiers in Education, International Journal of Psychology, Journal of Health Psychology, and Antibiotics. She has been invited to review papers for journals such as BMC Pediatrics, Journal of Health Psychology, Child Psychiatry and Human Development, Children, Plos One. Before joining Lusíada University, Joana L. Gonçalves completed her Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Porto (2021), and her postdoc at INED – Porto Higher School of Education (2022). Her work has been funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. At Lusíada University, she teaches developmental and clinical psychology courses in the first degree in psychology, the master’s degree in clinical psychology, and the PhD in clinical psychology and well-being.
