Olena Dorosh obtained her master's degree in Biotechnology for Sustainability in 2019 from the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology António Xavier NOVA University of Lisbon, and a bachelor's in Biochemistry in 2017 from the NOVA School of Science and Technology. She has worked as a researcher with a Master Student Fellow in the BioreVinery (PTDC/BII-BIO/30884/2017) and Honey+ (MTS/SAS/0077/2020) projects, at REQUIMTE/LAQV-ISEP, Polytechnic University of Porto (Portugal). In 2022 she enrolled in the Sustainable Chemistry doctoral program, with a Ph.D. student grant provided by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. Her thesis project is entitled: "Burnt soils: sustainable remediation strategies". Her main scientific work field is agrarian sciences namely in the sustainable valorization of agro-food wastes and rehabilitation of burnet soils. Her research has been focused on the extraction of bioactive compounds from agricultural by-products using environmentally friendly techniques and the posterior incorporation of these extracts in value-added products. Recently, she has been testing the use of these agricultural wastes for the production of biochar enriched with nutrients (controlled release fertilizers) for the rehabilitation of burnet soils. She published 9 Web of Science-indexed journals and was the (co)author of 14 communications that were presented at international and national conferences. Her work has been recognized by experts in the field, being awarded 2nd place as best oral communication.

2019/03/10 - 2019/03/21 Due to the celebration of carbon's day during the international year of the periodic table, several Portuguese faculties together with schools planted 1300 trees. I helped to streamline the activities organized by FEUP and ISEP, which consisted in helping the kids to solve a big scale puzzle of the period table and in planting 118 pine trees.
