Clarisse Nobre, PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering by the UMinho since 2011, is an Assistant Researcher at the Centre of Biological Engineering (CEB) in UMinho (since 2022). She is also an Invited Assistant Professor at CEB. She has collaborated in 16 inter(national) projects and published 100 scientific contributions, including 38 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 7 book chapters (Scopus h-index 20), having interacted with more than 200 collaborators within her published scientific papers. She supervised several inter(national) students and researchers (2 Post-doc, 7 PhD, 19 Master, and 8 BSc). Her scientific path started as a research fellow at CEB in 2004, on the development of a new oscillatory-flow mesoreactor for bioprocesses application. In 2006, she joined the BIOLIFE project to develop work in prebiotics production and made a PhD in fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) purification. During the PhD she spent a 1-year internship at the University of Mons (UMons), Belgium, and 1-month at the University of Bratislava, Slovak Republic. In 2012, she spent 2-years as Post-doc plus 3-years as an external collaborator at UMons developing an integrated process for FOS production&purification through Simulated Moving Bed Chromatography. From 2013 to 2018, she was a Post-doc researcher at CEB, under a FCT grant, developing integrated processes for simultaneous production&purification of FOS in one-single fermentation. She was the principal investigator and coordinator of the financed project ColOsH. She built, assembled, and validated the ColOsH - a novel modular colon simulator for the physiologic conditions of all colon zones, including microbiota interaction with human intestinal cells and peristalsis simulation. She has also been extensively dedicated to the development of innovative functional foods, including mostly prebiotics. Since 2018 she collaborates with Sensus-Netherlands by researching in prebiotic functionality of inulin and fructo-oligosaccharides. And in 2021 she started a collaboration with Frulact-Portugal, to develop new functional fruit preparations. Her current research interests are focused on the development of novel multi-organ platforms envisaging the study of the role of microbiota, and its modulation through targeted dietary/prebiotics intervention, in the microbiota-gut-brain axis (MGBA). She collaborates with the Psychology Research Centre from UMinho since 2021, to study the MGBA.
