Patrícia Sá holds a BA in Languages, Literatures and Cultures from the School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon (2020) with an average of 17/20, and an MA in Comparative Studies from the same institution, whose dissertation on literary echoes of Frankenstein, monstrosity, and transhumanism titled "Monstros, humanos, transumanos: ecos literários de Frankenstein", supervised by Professor Ângela Fernandes (CEComp-FLUL), achieved an average score of 19/20 (2023). She has contributed to the study of Frankensteinian influences in contemporary novels, particularly Almudena Grandes's La Madre de Frankenstein (2020), with a review of Jan Baetens and Domingo Sánchez-Mesa's Frankenstein 1973-2020 (El Espíritu de la Colmena) (2020) published in DEDALUS (2022); a chapter to be included in a future anthology on adulterous adaptations of Frankenstein in the 21st century; and two presentations given at NOVA University Lisbon (2022), and at the Christmas session of the Interartes & Intermedia Seminars of the THELEME group (2022). She has also reflected on the alchemical influences in this novel with the article "Labora et Invenies: Uma Perspetiva Alquímica sobre Frankenstein (1818), de Mary Shelley", published in estrema: interdisciplinary journal of humanities (2022). She has made many contributions to the study of speculative fiction and monstrosity. In the venue of horror, she has co-organized an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu (1922) hosted at Cinema São Jorge on June 22, 2022, and co-edited the ensuing anthology Nosferatu: 100 Anos de Terror (2023). As a full member of the University of Lisbon Centre for Comparative Studies (CEComp-FLUL), she has co-edited the fourth issue of the zine P'ARTE: recolhas poéticas titled "Sympathy for the Grave" (2023). Moreover, she has written a chapter on horror resonances in Florbela Espanca's short story "A Morta" (1931) and in Mário de Sá Carneiro's novel Loucura... (1912) for Verbi Gratia's Enciclopédia do Terror Português (2023). In the realm of fantasy literature, she co-organised the event "The Road Goes Ever On And On: Commemorating J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973)", a collaboration between the University of Lisbon's Centre for History (CEH), Centre for Classical Studies (CEC), and Centre for English Studies (ULICES). In that event, she participated in a round table with the presentation “Shining and Dimming Lights in Tolkien’s Legendarium”, the beginnings of a study into Tolkien’s work she would continue in the paper “From the Flame Imperishable to the Silmarils: The Dimming of Lights in J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Silmarillion”, published in estrema: interdisciplinary journal of humanities (2023), and the presentation given at NOVA University Lisbon’s Winter Doctoral Symposium titled “Tolkien’s Waning Lights” (2023). She has since shifted her focus to the ecocritical tone in The Lord of the Rings and the emotion imprinted in its landscapes. As such, she gave the presentation “The Ekphrasis of Fear in J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings: The Case of the Old Forest” in the seminar “Unsettling Territories: Fear in Literature and Emotions” (2024) at the University of Lisbon, and wrote a chapter on the Ecogothic depiction of the Old Forest in The Fellowship of the Ring (1954) to be included in an ensuing anthology. She has also published the article "The Ekphrastic Narrative of Silmarils: The Prevalence of Ekphrasis in J. R. R: Tolkien's The Silmarillion" in The Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts (2024). In 2024, she began her PhD in Literatures, Arts and Cultures at the University of Lisbon and is preparing a thesis on emotion, literary creation, and ecocriticism in The Lord of the Rings. She also joined ULICES as a collaborator, and has taken on the role of Editor-in-Chief for estrema: interdisciplinary journal of humanities. Additionally, she is a content writer for Fábrica do Terror and a fiction author, with short stories in award-winning anthologies.
