Sofia Aires Martins is the Science Manager of iBB-Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences, an R&D unit at Instituto Superior
Técnico (IST) that works in the areas of Health and Bioeconomy. Her field of action includes scouting of funding opportunities,
mainly at international level, as well as supporting iBB researchers in all steps of the preparation of competitive proposals.
Martins SAM holds a PhD in Biotechnology from IST (2008), and a post-graduation in Project Management (ISEG, 2017). She has
over 15 years of experience in Life Sciences research and over 8 years of experience in management activities. She was a co-founder
of the start-up Magnomics SA (2014-2017), working in Point-of-Care diagnostics. She was involved in R&D, funding and stakeholders
engagement activities that enabled Magnomics to secure over 1.5 M Euros from projects and Venture Capital investments. In
2017 she joined INESC-MN as a Project Manager of the Infrastructure project Micro&NanoFabs@PT and in 2019 moved to a Science
Management and Communication role at INESC MN and INESC Brussels HUB, the international arm of INESC. She joined iBB in September
2021, where she is responsible to foster the presence of the Institute and its researchers in international R&D consortia
and networks.
