Sandrina Nóbrega Pereira concluded a BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Coimbra (2003) and a PhD in Biology, specialization of Cell Biology in 2009 from the same University with work conducted at Oscar Marin lab in the Instituto de Neurociencias (Alicante, Spain). During her PhD, she developed a solid background in Biochemical and Cell Biology, which allowed the identification of key players that regulate the migration of interneuronal populations in the developing mouse brain including a ground-breaking discovery in Neuron (1st author and cover). Sandrina made an extensive post-doc training in Cancer Metabolism, Ageing and Stem Cells Biology first at the CNIO (Madrid, Spain) at Manuel Serrano lab (2009-2013) and subsequently at the iMM-JLA (Lisbon, Portugal) at Sérgio Dias lab (2013-2018), where she revealed the impact of metabolic adaptations as therapeutic strategies in Cancer and Ageing. Importantly, she had two career breaks (between 2011 and 2014) due to maternity leave of 3 children, which significantly impacted her research productivity. In 2018, Sandrina was appointed a non-permanent employment contract as Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Medical Sciences, University of Aveiro (DCM-UA), where she started an independent research line in nutrient signaling and metabolic plasticity in cancer and regenerative biology. Since 2021, she is and Assistant Researcher (2020.00355.CEECIND, 6 year contract, more than 265k€ gross salary) at UA. Importantly, over the past 5 years, she has been able to attract 5 competitive grants as Principal or Co-Principal Investigator from European and Portuguese entities (FCT, ERA-CVD, Horizon 2020 EU) with an overall budget of more than 640k€ and has participant in several international projects and networks (INCUBATOR Gulbenkian and La Caixa Foundation; EpiLipidNET CA19105; EPIC-XS, Horizon 2020). Sandrina has published 22 SCOPUS-ORCID indexed articles, including Nature Cell Biology, Neuron, Nat. Commun., Cancer Res., Cell Reports, Cancer Immunology Research, and 1 book chapter, with an h-index factor of 16, more than 1200 citations and a cumulative impact factor of 213,39 including publication of 6 articles in journals with an impact factor of 10 or more. During her trajectory, she spent more than 10 years working abroad (2002-2013) in European leading institutes and a top pharmaceutical company (IN, CNIO, Janssen Pharmaceutical). She has more than 25 communications in national and international scientific meetings and 11 oral communications as invited speaker in ad hoc seminars, has mentored and supervised 20 undergraduates, 11 MSc students (3 ongoing), 2 PhD student (ongoing) and has participated as jury member in 8 MSc thesis. Sandrina has an extensive participation in several pedagogical activities and knowledge transfer to the academic community, including coordination of pedagogical projects to higher education (UA Advanced Course in Scientific Research – course not leading to grade), participation in pedagogical training and mobility actions (Erasmus+ program, University Santiago de Compostela, Spain), teaching university classes to first cycle of Higher Education (DCM-UA, Aveiro, since 2018) and as lecturer in prestigious graduate programs (UC MSc in Cellular and Molecular Biology, IGC PhD Program). Sandrina has been involved in several management institutional activities at iBiMED and DCM-UA since 2018 (DCM Election Commission, coordinator of DCM School Visits Commission, member of the iBiMED scientific commission). Additionally, she is actively engaged in science sustainability actions (iBIMED greenlab, funding member), outreaching and dissemination activities to the general public (students visit to DCM/UA, lecturers of cancer literacy to high school students, COVID UA Task Force 2020).
