I hold a PhD in Biology from the University of Aveiro, with a strong background in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Agronomy, and Analytical Chemistry. My PhD research focused on identifying and quantifying bacteria using infrared spectroscopy. Post-PhD, I worked on diverse research projects, including: - Phage therapy: Studied bacteriophage applications to control pathogenic bacteria in aquaculture (Life Project "EnviPhage"). - Sustainability: Developed biomaterials using agroforestry by-products (Project "AgroForWealth"). - Sensor development: Created sensors for toxin detection in shellfish and aquaculture, addressing harmful algal blooms and their impacts (Projects "Bioelectronic Tongue" and "COASTAL"). - Industry collaboration: Evaluated pharmaceutical formulations with a potentiometric electronic tongue for BluePharma. During this time, I also participated as a volunteer in other projects in collaboration with other institutions (IPMA and CIIMAR), namely in the application of Hyperspectral imaging for the rapid and accurate detection and quantification of toxic microalgae and identification of microplastics ingested by bivalves using infrared spectroscopy. My collaboration network includes both national (IPMA and CIIMAR) and international (NMBU – Norwegian University of Life Sciences and SINTEF, Norway) partners. I have published 36 papers until now in peer-reviewed journals (h index = 18) with more than 1000 citations (Scopus) and performed several poster and oral presentations about my work at national and international conferences. I was also actively involved in science outreach to the general public at various events, taught practical microbiology classes, served as a tutor at the Summer Academy of the University of Aveiro, and worked as a scientific mentor during the National Junior Chemistry Olympiads. I participated in mentoring several students during their laboratory projects and gave lectures. Additionally, I was a member of the organizing committee for international conferences, workshops/webinars, and advanced courses for PhD students.
