Araliya Mosleh is a senior researcher and an integral member of the CONSTRUCT research unit at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP). Her academic journey began with a BSc in Civil Engineering from International Imam Khomeini University (Iran) in 2002, followed by an MSc in Civil Engineering at Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST), one of Iran's top-ranked universities, in 2009. Mosleh's career as a licensed civil-structural engineer began in 2006, gaining extensive industry experience as a project manager, technical director, and structural designer from 2006 to 2012. During this time, she worked on diverse projects, including design and construction of buildings and bridges, as well as structural repair, restoration and retrofitting. From 2009 to 2012, she also served as a lecturer at Qazvin Islamic Azad University (QIAU), teaching 6 structural engineering courses. In 2012 she started her PhD at the University of Aveiro (Portugal), contributing to an FCT-funded research project (2013) and establishing academic collaborations with the University of Bundeswehr in Germany. Supported by a DAAD grant, she conducted advanced research as a visiting scholar at Bundeswehr University in Munich in 2015. She earned her PhD in Civil Engineering in 2016 and subsequently joined FEUP as a full-time researcher. Since 2016, Mosleh has been involved in several EU/national projects, such as Peddir, Risen, In2Track2, focusing on innovative systems for weigh-in-motion and wheel/track damage detection. Her pursuit of global expertise led her to research stays at the University of Wollongong, Australia, and EvoLeo Company in Munich, as a visiting researcher, where she explored emerging technologies and railway market needs. Since 2021, she engaged the leadership of the projects Ferrovia 4.0, Way4saferail, Smartwagon, demonstrating expertise in condition monitoring and wheel/track damage detection. She has supervised 17 MSc theses, 1 ongoing PhD student, and 8 researchers. Notably, her PhD student received an FCT scholarship (ranked 1st out of 103 candidates) for the development of AI-based systems for track maintenance. In 2021, Mosleh was 5th (out of 72 applicants) in the CEEC-4th edition Junior Researcher individual call in the panel of Civil and Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Systems (8.9/10). An accomplished academic, Mosleh has authored over 60 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and conferences. She has served as a peer reviewer for 166 papers across 40 journals, an editorial board member for 2 journals (Mechanical Engineering Advances & Journal of Structural Engineering and Geotechnics), and a guest editor for 4 special issues (Railway Engineering Science, Advances in Mechanical Engineering, Sensors and Applied Sciences). Her contributions include organizing 5 mini-symposia (IRAS 2019, CILAMCE 2023, VBE 2023, ECCOMAS 2024, EVACES 2025), serving on 4 scientific committees (CILAMCE 2023, VBE 2023, Engineering Education 2023, RAILWAYS 2024), chairing sessions at 4 conferences (IRAS 2019, CILAMCE 2023, VBE 2023, RAILWAYS 2024), and delivering invited lectures at prominent universities like the Technical University of Munich (2018) and University College Dublin (2023). In 2023, she led a workshop at the ICRARE conference on machine-learning applications for railway wheel defect detection. She has received 4 Best Presentation awards, organized 1 international workshop between FEUP and the University of Birmingham (UK), and was invited as a book reviewer for the Editorial Advisory Board of a QIAU book series. A persistent advocate for research funding, Mosleh has applied for several EU and national project grants. Her international collaborations span 12 countries, resulting in high-impact publications and joint initiatives. With an H-index of 14 and over 500 citations on Scopus, she exemplifies significant influence and rapid advancement in her field.
