Dr. Mario Del Rosario is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the lab of Prof. Ricardo Henriques and currently affiliated with the Gulbenkian Institute for Molecular Medicine and ITQB NOVA, in Oeiras, Portugal. Mario completed his undergraduate studies at Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (Ecuador), where he studied for a BSc in Biology. He then did a Maters in Research in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Glasgow, in Scotland, where he focused on host-pathogen interactions. He remained in the same lab for his PhD, which he completed in 2019. During this time, he learned and developed super-resolution microscopy tools to study Toxoplasma gondii -host cell interactions, especially, actin dynamics and invasion kinetics. His current work as a postdoc focuses on using artificial intelligence and image analysis to study the biology of phototoxicity, leveraging cell health cues to assess photodamage and cellular stress. Additionally, he uses expansion and super-resolution microscopy to study pathogens.
