Yolanda Moreno-Bello specializes in interpreting in vulnerable and conflict settings, by applying transnational and intersectional approaches of sociolinguistics. She holds an international PhD from Universidad de Alcalá and Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth. She has collaborated with a number of universities, such as the University of Nairobi/PAMCIT and Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. From 2013 to 2017, she researched about the role of communication and language in conflict zones which earned her an International PhD Scholarship (FPU) granted by University of Alcalá (Spain), followed by a second scholarship for the development of the empirical research at University Saint Joseph- Beyrouth (Lebanon). She has participated in other research projects such as LINDE (Legal interpreting for women in detention settings), Speak Out for Support SOS-VICs (UE) (Support for victims of gender violence), OPTIMALE (Optimising Professional Translator Training in a Multilingual Europe), Cultural and linguistic barriers in the access to sexual health in Kenya, and other research projects in Saudi Arabia, The Gambia and Antigua & Barbuda. She is currently working on intercultural communication in Nigeria. In this research she has focused on the barriers that vulnerable women (nationals and refugees) face when accessing services and information.
