Fernando Hernández-Hernández is a professor of Contemporary Visualities, Psychology of Art and Arts-based Research in the Unit of Cultural Pedagogies at the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Barcelona (UB). He is a coordinator of the Postgraduate Programme in Arts and Education. He is a co-coordinator of the research group ESBRINA – Contemporary, Subjectivities, Visualities and Educational Environments (2017 SGR 1248) http://esbrina.eu; and is a member of REUNI+D – University Network for Educational Research and Innovation. Social Change and Challenges for Education in the Digital Age (EDU2015-68718-REDT) http://reunid.eu. He has extensive experience in educational ethnographic research particularly in youth participatory ethnography and meta-ethnographic analysis. He has written with Juana M. Sancho a chapter on “Writing and Managing Multimodal Field Notes” for the [Oxford] Encyclopedia of Qualitative Research Methods in Education. He co-directs the book series ‘Repensar la educación [Rethinking education]’ and directs the book series ‘Intersecciones [Intersections]’ both published by Octaedro. He has published remarkable books and articles both nationally and internationally. His research focuses on emerging subjectivities, visual culture and educational innovation and improvement. Within the topic of visual culture representations and speeches about childhood, he began a more in depth investigation in 2012 with the article "Visual culture as a strategy that enables learning through making connections" (Hernández, La cultura visual como estrategia que posibilita aprender a partir de establecer relaciones, 2012), and continued with the article Archive practices on the imaginary of childhood in contemporary artistic photography (Hernández & Pedreño, Prácticas de archivo en torno a los imaginarios de la(s) infancia(s) en la fotografía artística contemporánea, 2018). Has been a guest or visiting researcher at the University of Technology Sydney, Universidade de São Paulo, Lynch School of Education, Boston College, The Centre for the Learning Sciences, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität and ESRC National Centre for Research Methods, University of Southampton. He has a degree in Philosophy & Humanities (Psychology, UB), and a doctoral degree in Philosophy and Educational Sciences (Psychology, UB).
