Sílvia Guimarães is a researcher specialized in paleogenomics with a specific interest in biodiversity and evolutionary studies. She obtained a PhD in Anthropological Sciences at the University of Florence in 2007 with a thesis on the genetic history of medieval Italian populations. In 2010, she integrated the Epigenome and Paleogenome group at the Institute Jacques Monod in Paris as a post-doctoral researcher. In 2018 she joined the Institute Milà i Fontanals, Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, CSIC, Barcelona as a research associate as part of a European Research Council (ERC) project: ZooMWest - Zooarchaeology and Mobility in the Western Mediterranean. In 2021 she integrated the Archaeogenetics group from BIOPOLIS-CIBIO from the University of Porto. She has taken part in many research projects, and her work resulted in papers in international peer-reviewed journals. Sílvia Guimarães primary research focused on past animal and human societies, domestication events and population dynamics. During her research she developed a keen interest in the importance of preserving and understanding archaeological heritage. She is currently enrolled in a master’s degree in Heritage at the NOVA University of Lisbon, School of Social Sciences and Humanities.
