Filipa Diana da Silva Mendes completed a bachelor's degree in Biology-Geology in 2014 (with a grade of 14 out of 20) and a master's in Molecular Genetics in 2017 (with a grade of 17 out of 20), both at the University of Minho. Currently she is a PhD student of Doctoral Program in Molecular and Environmental Biology (FCT grant ref: SFRH/BD/147574/2019). Her PhD project intends to generate ecotoxicity data for risk assessment for substances of interest based on their common use in vineyards and develop and validate novel easy-to use yeast-based biosensor for water monitoring programs being developed in accordance with the project FunG-Eye: A functional approach to unravel the interaction between fungicide pollution and fungi-mediated ecosystem processes in which she is a team member. In 2018, she received an award from the national contest FoodValorization and integrated the research project "Recovery of acidic wines through reduction of their volatile acidity by the yeast Zygosaccharomyces bailli" as a co-promoter. She also collaborated with another ongoing project addressing the role of metabolism in the response to the chemotherapeutic agent cisplatin. This work resulted in a co-first authorship scientific article, in three poster presentations in national congresses and in an oral presentation in a seminar organized by the Biology Department. She also attended different training courses and workshops, scientific meetings and participated and organized several multiple science dissemination/outreach programs. She also has taken on the co-supervision of Masters and undergraduate students.
