Plinio Moreno received a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, B.Sc. in Computer Science and M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, Colombia) in 1998, 2000 and 2002 respectively. He completed the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computers Engineering at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST, Lisbon, Portugal) in 2008. He is a senior (tenured) research scientist at ISR|Lisbon. P. Moreno has contributed to the elaboration of 2 Carnegie Mellon University (CMU, Pittsburgh, USA) and Portugal funded projects: Augmented Human Assistance (AHA) and IntelligentCare. The IntelligentCare project aims to develop a patient centric solution to manage multimorbidity condition using artificial intelligence (AI) methods to explore data from the electronic health records (EHR) and measures reported remotely by the patients related to outcomes (PROMs) and to life events and quality of life, named as additional value variables (AVVs). He contributed to the elaboration of the Future and Emergent Technologies (FET) Open project RePair (budget of 3.52 million euros), selected for funding in 2020 and where he is co-PI. The main goal of the RePAIR project is to develop innovative technology to virtually eliminate one of the most laborious and frustrating steps in archaeological research, namely the physical reconstruction of shattered works of art. From 2017 to 2022, P. Moreno was the main manager of the infrastructure project RBCog-Lab. This project provides ISR-Lisbon and Portugal with the most recent devices and robotic platforms for Cognitive Robotics research. His research interests include visual perception for object manipulation and social robotics. Since 2018, P. Moreno supervised 46 M.Sc. theses and he is currently supervising 5 Ph.D. student and 4 M.Sc. theses. Two of the graduated M.Sc. students received awards for their work: Gonçalo Cunha got the best poster award at the RECPAD2020 conference, and Manuel Serra got the best M.Sc. thesis in Robotics award by the Robotics Society of Portugal (2021), and the IEEE Portugal Outstanding MSc Thesis Award in Electrical Engineering (2021). Dimitrios Dimou, the Ph.D. student being supervised by P. Moreno is funded by the Portuguese Science Foundation since 2020.
