André João Gabriel Esgalhado obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Beira Interior in 2014 and 2016, respectively. Currently, he is a researcher and PhD student at the Health Sciences Research Centre of the University of Beira Interior (CICS-UBI) under a FCT Scholarship (UI/BD/151022/2021). The main focus of his research consists in the study of highly differentiated Human Effector-Memory CD8+ T cells, differing on the expression of the CD45RA phosphatase isoform, namely their potential protective role in cognition and neurodegenerative diseases. Likewise, he has expertise in several laboratory techniques, namely isolation, culture and differentiation of CD8+ T cells (among other immune cells), multiparametric flow cytometry (cell proliferation, differentiation and survival, cell surface receptor expression and intracellular cytokine production), Immunoprecipitation, SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting and ELISA. He is also co-head of the Flow Cytometry Unit at CICS-UBI. Additionally, he has authored/co-authored eight articles in peer-reviewed journals, and more than twenty oral and poster presentations on National and International Congresses. Finally, he has also been a member of the organizing committee of two International Congresses.
