Lillian Barros (LB) is a Principal Researcher at the Mountain Research Center (CIMO) of the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB), in which she is also vice-coordinator of CIMO and vice-director of the Associate Laboratory for Sustainability and Technology in Mountains Regions (SusTEC). LB has a PhD in Pharmacy (Nutrition and Bromatology), and a License degree in Biotechnology Engineering. LB research targets are mainly in the identification, separation and recovery of functional molecules from different natural products, as well as their implementation as ingredients and bioactive compounds in food, with an ultimate goal to extract high added-value molecules and reuse them in the food chain - from agriculture to the consumer. As a researcher, LB was awarded 2 post-doctoral grants (2009-2013 and 2015-2017), a Ramon y Cajal research contract (Ourense, 2015), a research contract FCT Ciência 2008 (CIMO, 2013-2015), a Junior Researcher contract (2016, CIMO), and a career Assistant Researcher contract (2019, CIMO). LB has published >700 scientific documents, including research articles, reviews and editorials, within the highest impact factor journals in the Food Science and Technology field (81 h-index, SCOPUS 2024). LB scientific production has been very relevant and has reached top positions in the world rankings (Highly Cited Researcher since 2016, Clarivate). LB has edited 8 books (Wiley-Blackwell, Frontiers in Science, Springer, Bentham and Elsevier), has written several book chapters, and has registered 13 patents. LB is an associate editor for Food & Function and belongs to the editorial board member of Molecules, Frontiers in Nutrition, Jorunal of Food Bioscience, and Journal of Composition and Analysis, she also has 2 permanent special issue in Antioxidants and Foods. At the moment, LB is also the guest editor of several special issues in MDPI and in Elsevier, and has concluded several other special issues. LB is/was the Principal Researcher of 12 international (11 ongoing) and 19 national projects (4 ongoing) and is/was member of another 8 (concluded) and 18 (2 ongoing), respectively. LB scientific work has raised interest and has led to the supervision of12 postdocs (3 ongoing), 29 Ph.D. (19 ongoing), 64 masters (4 ongoing), 13 license, and 5 CTesP students, as well as 15 scientific initiation internships, 28 international students in scientific internships, and 43 research project grants. She has also performed several scientific international research visits: 1) Fac. of Pharmacy, Univ. Salamanca, Spain, 2 months/year 2009-2013; 2) Inst. Biological Research, Univ. Belgrade, Serbia, 6 months; 3) Fac. of Pharmacy, Univ. Complutense of Madrid, 3 months; 4) Inst. of Nuclear Energy Research, Univ. São Paulo, Brazil, 3 months. This allowed to receive new knowledge and scientific growth. LB has been member of organizing committees of scientific conferences, presented invited lectures in international and national conferences, and have >1100 oral/poster communications, including papers in conference proceedings. LB has been member of PhD and Master defenses and I also have teaching experience. She has served as an international expert evaluator for ArimNet2 program (2017 and 2019 - re-evaluation) proposals, and has also collaborated in the review of scientific projects in Polish Science Agency - National Science Center since 2018; European Science Foundation, the USDA scientific Review Panel, Coordinator of the Agricultural and Food Technologies panel in the evaluation of the Competition for FCT PhD Research Grants 2023, and Assessment Committee for Final Scientific Reports of IC&DT projects 2019-2023 within the painel Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of FCT. LB has assisted as an invited reviewer (>300 articles, >35 Journals), being recognized as Top Reviewer since 2016 in Food & Function, and in since 2017 as an Outstanding Reviewer for several Elsevier Journals. Finally, LB reviewed >30 international book proposals.
