Luís Cruz (LC) has a PhD in Chemistry (FCUP, 2010) studying polyphenols chemistry of plant-based foods. LC realized an internship in the Group of F. Pina (UNL, PT), where he developed skills in spectroscopy characterization of polyphenolic-based dyes, which were crucial to unveil molecular-level mechanisms for their optical properties during his PostDoc (2011-2016). In 2017, LC got a Research Contract (NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000011) to explore novel approaches for dye color stabilization through supramolecular interactions. From 2018-2023, LC was an Assistant Researcher (DL57/2016/CP1334/CT0008) for developing stimuli-responsive polyphenol-based materials for applications in food, cosmetics, and biomedical. In 2023, LC was awarded Principal Researcher in the Scientific Employment Stimulus Individual Call (2023.07923.CEECIND) with the project “An innovative integrated platform to increase food safety and food waste reduction”. LC published 61 papers, 3 reviews, 3 book chapters, over 1400 citations (h-index 23). LC was Invited Assistant Professor at FCUP (2018-2022), teaching food chemistry, nutrition, and organic chemistry laboratory, and since 2016, is an Invited Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, teaching applied organic chemistry and biological chemistry topics. LC has been demonstrating research independence by extending his collaborations with high-cited researchers: E. Megia (SP); R. Blackburn (UK); E. Salas (Mexico); K. Yoshida (JP), O. Dangles (FR). LC internationalization was strengthened with J. Simal-Gandara (SP) under the IACOBUS mobility program (2022) where he developed skills in greener and cleaner extraction technologies. Most of the investigation had been performed with his well-established national (32%) and international (22%) network, as proved by the papers published with 112 Co-Authors. LC demonstrated leadership and management skills in 2 funded competitive projects as PI (FoodSmarTag and Anthophilic, 240k€), and by participating in more than 10 national projects as team member (880k€), where he was the task leader for providing and characterization of polyphenolic-based materials. Concerning European calls, LC participated in an International Cooperative Research Network (2M€, 0377_IBERPHENOL_6_E, 2017-2020), and currently is membership of 2 WGs of a COST action (ACRYRED-CA21149, 2022-2026). In total, LC has concluded the supervision of 1 post-doc researcher, 3 PhD and 2 MSc students, 4 research fellows, and 8 undergraduate students. He had mentored 2 foreign PhD students (IT, Mexico) during their research internships in his lab. LC is currently supervising 1 PhD student, 1 MSc student, and 1 graduation student. Currently, LC is Invited Adjunct Professor in ESS-IPP where LC gave 4 invited keynote lectures in '13th, 14th National Joint Meetings of Organic and 6th, 7th Medicinal Chemistry (Lisbon-2022 and Aveiro-2020)', 'XXVIII Portuguese Chemical Society National Conference' and 'XI Young Investigators Workshop (Vienna-2019)'. LC was internationally recognized by EuChemS as the Best Portuguese Organic Chemist under 40 years old (2019). LC won 2 travel grants given by 'Groupe of Polyphenols' and 1 poster prize in an international conference. LC was the principal arguer of academic degrees of 1 PhD (Spain), 1 PhD (FCT-UNL, PT), 1 MSc (FCT-UNL, PT), and several graduated students. LC has experience as Guest Editor of Special Journals (Processes, IJMS) and has an intense reviewer activity in many SCI journals; organizing team member of XXVI National Meeting of Portuguese Chemical Society (2019), XXIV Luso-Galego Chemistry Meeting (2018) and 7th International Workshop of Anthocyanin (2013).
