Lea Pogacnik. Completed the Doktor (PhD) in School of Environmental Sciences in 2001 by Univerza v Novi Gorici and Bachelor in University Study Programme of Chemistry in 1995 by Univerza v Ljubljani. Is Associate Professor in Univerza v Ljubljani Biotehniska fakulteta. Published 21 articles in journals. Has received 4 awards and/or honors. She has menthored 2 PhD students, 13 MSc students and 36 BSc students. Her reaserch fields are: -simultaneous isolation and biochemical characterization of chatepsin B, H and S from pork spleen -research work on the field of application of thermal lens spectrometry in analytical chemistry -development and optimization of photothermal biosensor and its application for detection of low concentrations of organophosphate and carbamate pesticides in water, fruit juices and vegetables - determination of sample toxicity -determination of correlation between detected toxicity of samples by a biosensor with LD50 values, determined on sample animals -taking part in soil sample analysis, taken in the neighbourhood of planned highways -measurement of dust and heavy metals in emissions from Cinkarna Celje -introduction of improved system of practical classes (contemporary study, students` self-evaluation, etc.) -taking part at knowledge evaluation of the first year students at various faculty programs (Biotechnical Faculty, Medical Faculty, Faculty for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering) -optimization of growth conditions of thermophilic microorganisms Archaea Aeropyrum pernix and study of their shape under electronic microscope -optimization of chemoluminescence assay for determination of antioxidative capacity in food extracts -determination of antioxidative potential, total phenols, vitamin C content and qualitative identification of several phenolic acids and flavonoids in the fresh and dried medicinal herbs and invasive knotweed species by HPLC-DAD and HPLC-MS system -studying the influence of environmental factors on content of total phenols, vitamin C and antioxidative activity of rose hip berries - studying the influence of resevratrol on oxidative stability of oil - characterising bioactivities from invasive knotweed species - studying the neuroprotective properties of polyphenols
